I noticed that my little internalizer has a hard time dealing with her anger (don’t we all?) and either she wants to be hurtful (both physically and with her words) or she feels unlovable, so I started writing and singing this song. However, as time goes by, I’ve started to become aware of the fact that I sing it mostly when she’s really making me mad and I’m trying not to lose my temper which usually leads me to feeling really unlovable. This song helps us both a lot. However, she has a different version that makes me laugh, “I love you when you’re happy and I hate you when you’re mad.”

I love to watch my girls sleep because there’s nothing quite so satisfying as hearing their sweet little snores after working so hard to get them to fall asleep. I wrote this song and have sung it to Maddy since she was a tiny infant. It’s one of her favorites still, seven years later. Click on the song to see it better.
